Son Bou Holidays
On the south coast of the island, the purpose-built resort of Son Bou is located 12 miles from the capital city and airport of Mahon. Holidays in Son Bou feature one of the best beaches on the island, with its two-mile stretch of fine white sand and deep blue seas. The beach does have a tendency to become over-crowded during the summer weekends, mainly with local Menorcan families.
Son Bau is particularly popular with families, due to its clean, safe waters, kids' clubs, and water rides at Club San Jaime. A wealth of water sports is also available on the beach, such as snorkelling, wind surfing, and jet skiing. Visitors can enjoy refreshing drinks at the beach bars. Those after an even tan can strip off at the nudist beach further along the coast towards Santo Tomas. Son Bau features a handful of shops and supermarkets.
Regular buses run to the nearby town of Alaior throughout the day. From Alaior, visitors can take a bus to Mahon, famed for excellent shopping, and the historic old city of Ciutadella, with its maze of narrow streets. Evening entertainment in San Bau is largely hotel-based, but there is a late-night disco for the more energetic tourist. The resort is also home to plenty of bars and restaurants serving a wide selection of international cuisine.
